Album Review: Binary Portal<\/em> x Entropic Gravity x Seba<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Over the past few days, I\u2019ve listened to this album more times than I have in the seven months since it dropped. It\u2019s not a walk in the park\u2014I mean, this isn\u2019t Bruno Mars, with all due respect to Bruno. Some of the tracks on this record demand attention and effort. If you think music is something you can always consume passively, then hey, we\u2019re just built differently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What I mean is: it takes a certain energy to meet an album\u2014and its creator\u2014where they are. To follow the details, to analyze, to understand. Some records out there carry a level of complexity that deserves thought and reflection. I\u2019m not just talking about Binary Portal<\/em>\u2014I mean in general. There are records, and there are records<\/em>. There are artists who absolutely kill it with commercial, light music\u2014and hats off to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m not here to argue or judge. I\u2019m just saying: a track like Let the Code Compile<\/em> doesn\u2019t just \u201cplay itself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And yeah, I might sound like a broken record, but without a proper volume level, without a decent sound system, the experience just isn\u2019t the same. That\u2019s because sound\u2014real sound\u2014needs to move some damn air to feel full and complex. And this album? There\u2019s a lot<\/em> of air to move. Just listen to Secret Galaxies<\/em> or Fast Machines<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Could I say there\u2019s a track I prefer over another? Sure. But it wouldn\u2019t feel right. Today I might fall off my chair listening to Beyond PI<\/em>, tomorrow I\u2019m flatlined by 4D Dream<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This album is unapologetically, elegantly, unshakably electronic.
